Kamala Mills Building Fire: 14 Dead, Including A Girl Celebrating Her B’Day In A Pub

2017, the year will end in just three days but seems there is a very sad ending of the year indeed! As the fire broke out on the top floor of a building inside the Kamala Mill compound in Lower Parel, Mumbai in the early hours of Friday.

At least 14 people died, including 11 women, and among which one girl is celebrating her 28th birthday in a pub. As well as 19 others were injured.


As per the report, the fire broke out around 12:30 am, and in half an hour it was it was brought under control.

According to The Indian Express, after the preliminary investigations into the cause of the fire, the Mumbai police has registered a case against the owner of One Above. The fire broke out there and also engulfed the neighbouring restaurants and pubs. The case registered is one of a culpable homicide.

A fire department official said,

“The fire spread due to the carpets and wooden floors of some of these places. The fire spread rapidly in the whole building. The satellite antennae of media houses were also destroyed in the incident.”

Maximum casualties were on account of suffocation.

“One Above has a very narrow entry, so as soon as the place caught fire, guests started running. In their bid to escape, a few guests went to the washroom, where most of the dead bodies were recovered,” said an officer.
