On 26th January, every Indian celebrated the Republic day with utmost zeal and pride. In various parts of the Nation, many Republic Day event occurred where braver hearts were honored. Well, an event that took place in Haryana is absolutely shameful.
Let me tell you what happened. The Former Haryana Director General of Police SPS Rathore at his home office in Panchkula on August 12, 1990, molested 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra. She along with her friend informed about the incident to the police. During the proceedings of the case due to alleged harassment by the police, the teenager committed suicide after three years.
In the event, he was a guest and was sitting with government officials and other dignitaries at the stage. He was seated near the Superintendent on the front row, in the district level parade and even took the guard of honor, as per reported by Times of India.
The friends and family of the victim were shocked. A member of the victim’s family said “It is shameful and disgraceful that Haryana Government felt the need to express solidarity with such molesters. We have no words to describe how we feel. We still can’t believe the Haryana Administration did this”.
The government also honored the late Anand Prakash who fought the legal battle against Rathore for 26 years.
The victim’s friend told Hindustan Times “He (Rathore) must have been invited to the function. It is shameless on the part of the local administration. By endorsing such criminals, who have been convicted by the Supreme Court, the administration is directly encouraging such crimes”
The administration didn’t utter a word about the whole incident. However, a senior official has quoted the invitation as a mistake.
