Pollution level in our country is increasing day by day. The evidence of it you can see in our National Capital New Delhi where residents are facing problems & dealing with dust and air pollution. With all the passing years, we are all struggling to cope up with it.
Well, in mid of all these Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi chalking out a 10-point action plan to promote solar energy seems to be in implementation. Yes, Diu has taken a step forward and now runs completely on solar energy.
It has become the only city in India where 100% of the electrical needs are completed by solar power. Diu stretches over a geographical area of just 42 sq km but solar power plants have been installed in over 50 acres of land despite facing scarcity of space.
Daman and Diu electricity department’s executive engineer Milind Ingle while speaking to TOI said “POPULATION OF DIU IS 56,000 ONLY. FOR WATER AND ELECTRICITY, THE UNION TERRITORY WAS SOLELY DEPENDENT ON THE GUJARAT GOVERNMENT. TO OVERCOME THIS LIMITATION, THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE UNION TERRITORY DECIDED TO SET UP SOLAR POWER PLANTS IN DIU.”
“Diu’s peak time demand for electricity goes up to 7MW and we generate about 10.5MW of electricity from solar energy daily. This is way more than the consumption demand requirement.” he further said.
