Crime in our country happens daily. News can be heard daily about it which are disgusting and there is need to take some strict action against it. There is Harassment, rape, murder, physical & verbal abuse and on the other side there exist cyber crimes in which personal accounts of people are hacked or they are duped by another people.
We all have heard about the celebrity social media accounts getting hacked Right??? and what happened with a businessman from Bengaluru is no different. The man recently became a victim of cyber-crime.
As per Times of India, this 34-year-old from Bengaluru has lost almost Rs 60 lakh to a woman he had been acquainted with.
This all started when the businessman created his account on a dating website. On the site, he came to know about Arpita from Kolkata (user ID ‘shompa76’). After few days of communication, she started using the tricks that are usually used in cyber-criminals.
She asked him for Rs 30,000 for her fake father as he was admitted to BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata. When the money got transferred she started asking for more money.
From December, 2017 to January 2018 he had given her a total amount of Rs 59.7 lakh. When Arpita didn’t respond to his messages and calls this is when he filed his first official complaint.
A police official working on the case said, “IN MATRIMONIAL AND DATING WEBSITES, CYBER CRIMINALS PICK AGED OR SEPARATED MEN/WOMEN LOOKING FOR A RELATIONSHIP. THEY POSE AS RICH ENTREPRENEURS, MANIPULATE THE VICTIMS AND STEAL THEIR MONEY.”
This could happen to anyone so be careful with whom you become a friend on a dating website.
